  • Even Natural Chemical Peels Can Burn - There Is An Alternative
  • You should know that natural chemical peels are not necessarily any safer than unnatural ones.  Both types include acids of varying intensity and at various concentrations.  Acids can burn.  Here’s a look at some alternatives.

The right alternative depends on your goal.  For example, a peel may be recommended for correcting uneven pigmentation; age spots for example.

Creams containing extracts from a plant called nut grass have proven to be effective for correcting uneven pigmentation and even for skin lightening.  Nut grass extracts have been shown to inhibit melanin production.  Melanin is a pigment.  Any dark spots on the skin are basically melanin clumps.

Other safe and effective compounds for uneven pigmentation include avocado extract and vitamin E.  Avocado extract works to reduce age spots because it contains sterolins, plant steroids.  Your best choice is an anti-aging night cream that contains it.

Vitamin E works because it is an antioxidant.  All visible signs of aging are at least partially caused by free radical damage.  Natural chemical peels are often recommended for de-aging the skin’s appearance.  A good antioxidant-rich anti-aging cream could work just as well without causing any adverse side effects.

A peel can cause a number of unwanted side effects, even if the acids are mild and naturally occurring.  In addition to burning, itching and irritation are common.  Peeling is to be expected and can be unsightly.  Think about the worst sunburn you ever had.  That’s the amount of peeling you can expect.

Another recommended use is for deep cleansing or cleaning out the pores.  A better alternative is a deep cleansing mask containing clay extracts called kaolin and bentone gel.  They gently pull dirt, oil and dead skin cells out of the pores.  The masks can be used on a bi-weekly basis.  Even the natural chemical peels are not designed to be used that often.

Basically, the acids are simply too harsh.  Whether or not you think you have sensitive skin, you probably do.  No one can use the acids without experiencing some redness and where there’s redness, there is inflammation.

Inflammation is one of the causes of skin aging.  Inflammatory molecules damage and degrade the skin’s elastic collagen fibers, increasing the risk of sagging.

Treating your skin gently will allow you to look better as you age.  While you might still be in your youth, you should think about the future.  The damage done by natural chemical peels could stay with you for many years to come.
